Dan Delane. Dan was born Portland, OR and grew up in Palos Verdes. He went back east for school (scholarship) West Virginia University (BA in Business). He was a private pilot in college, a member of the USAF ROTC and was commissioned in May 1975. He worked non-rated in the Air Force, A-10 System Program office and was sent off to Air Force Institute of Technology for a Masters in Manufacturing Technology.
Eventually got into a pilot training slot from there, graduating class 79-04 Columbus, GA. He was awarded the F-15 as his initial assignment and flew F-15's at Eglin AFB, FL for three years (and became an instructor while there). He was subsequently assigned to the Aggressor Squadron, Nellis AFB, NV and flew F-5E's as an adversary for Operation Red Flag and more. After voluntary separation from active duty, he hired on as a Guardsman in Atlanta, and was one of the intial cadre F-15 Instructors to train the F-4 fighter pilots there to transition to the Eagle. Dan flew the Eagles there for 10 years. He hired on with FEDEX in 1990 (concurrently with the Guard gig) and is now Fleet Check Airman for FEDEX (MD-11 and others). And now, a DAFer!
