Ralph and JoAnn Stewart. Ralph and JoAnn first met in Michigan in 1962 at their high school football game. Ralph got his pilot's license in 1963. On one occasion, Ralph decided to take JoAnn and his good friend Rodger and Rodger's girlfriend up for a flight. He rented a Mooney M20.

He left the airport in Pontiac, Michigan and flew toward Detroit, at night. Flying along the Canadian-US border and then over the city of Detroit, Ralph felt a need to trim the plane. He trimmed, and trimmed, and trimmed.

Not getting the right feel, he looked over and saw JoAnn, hands on the control wheel, flying the plane. In a surprised voice, he said, "JoAnn, YOU'RE flying the plane!" Realizing a big no-no, she let go, glad not to have to struggle with it. Now of course, Ralph had trimmed, exceedingly. Yep, nose-down is a good description. Sooooo, he reacted by pulling up. JoAnn, being scared she caused this, also decided to grab the wheel again and pull up. Yep, nose-up is a good description. Rodger and Jennifer in the back were getting scared with the roller coaster effect, and the stall warning didn't help. However, Ralph, being the good pilot he is, brought it under control. They flew together on other occasions.

After graduation, JoAnn planned to go to U of M, Ralph planned to go to Northwestern, so Ralph told JoAnn that a parting of ways was appropriate. Devasted, she vowed to get even some day. Well, as luck would have it, Rodger stayed in touch with both, not telling the other. When both spouses passed, Rodger brought Ralph up to visit JoAnn. Yep, she got even. They got married in October 2010, and Ralph now owns a Mooney M20.
