The Catalina Island Airport in the Sky facility will remain open for visitors during the runway repair project, however, beginning December 10th through April 15, the main runway will be closed. The California Department of Transportation (CalDOT) Aeronautics Division has issued a Temporary Runway Permit for the project period which severely limits landings at the airport. In accordance with guidance from CalDOT Aeronautics, pilots possessing a Commercial Pilots License (CPL) and are conducting business on Catalina Island may request a Prior Permission Required (PPR) number by contacting aiport personnel at 310-510-0143, and if granted, will be required to sign a liability waiver in order to land/depart Catalina Airport (KAVX).
The Conservancy appreciates your understanding during this period of improvements. For current Aero Club Members, we ask for your consideration of donating a portion of your landing fees (Dec-April) to the Conservancy. If you choose not to donate and would like an extension for your membership, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
We will be sending you periodic updates to keep you informed of the progress. Upon completion of the project we will be celebrating these improvements with a special Fly-In Event for Aero Club Members. I hope you can join us, please stay tuned for more details.
Thank you for your patience and support of the Catalina Island Conservancy as we work to improve your future landing experiences on Catalina Island.
