July Dinner Meeting
The club's second dinner meeting at Palos Verdes Golf Club on July 17 did not disappoint. Attendance was strong with quite a few new, as well as prospective, members attending. Status updates were presented on September's fly-in to Las Vegas and November's trip to Alamos, Mexico. Mitch also presented details for the upcoming Hangar Party on August 25. (This year's theme, "General Aviation in the Post Apocalyptic World", apparently baffled some of the audience, while intriguing others). The evening's program was a great video on the early history of the U.S. Air Mail program presented by Mitch.
Another Successful Flaming Brisket
Participants included an estimated 14 airplanes, 2 cars, 30 people and at least 2 dogs. Some planes and faces new to the DAF were seen on the ramp at Agua Dulce as evidence that the DAF family is growing.
Three members of the Tiger Squadron arrived at Ague Dulce in a parade formation. The two CJs and Yak separated in the overhead break and landed individually on the narrow runway. Because they avoided temptation and didn't execute any low passes (with smoke), the DAF may be able to go back next year.
Thanks, Mitch, for another outstanding event.
June Dinner Meeting
Our June dinner meeting was the first to be held at our new venue - the Palos Verdes Golf Club. It was by far our best attendance for the year, and everyone seemed to enjoy the new facilities and services. New name badges were introduced, designed and produced by Maria Grau (with a little help from Wayne). For these efforts, as well as the highly effective Fly-In photo boards that she created for the DAF Meet & Greet BBQ, Maria received the highly-coveted Wings Award. Congratulations, Maria!
The program was an aviation photography presentation by Frank Mormillo, who is currently associated with the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino. Thanks to Frank for showing us some stunning shots.
